So i am going to try and get really close to the action this year at the Rally Portugal.
I am planning to use 1D2+ 35L to get in close panning, and use the 80-200L for when i can not get closer.
My past experiences (using the 24-105) is dust gets everywhere.
I will need to get a better dust protection than a plastic bag.
I am more worried with the lens thank with the camera, but sealing both would be great.
Do you harsh environment shooter want to chime in and give pointers ?
You can use rain gear and I know some people tie a hankerchief around the lens which helps but there is no good way that I know of to protect the camera that keeps all the dust out and does not make it more difficult to shoot. Try to keep the card door closed when it's dusty and don't change lenses. I just plan on getting new equipment every year or so.
I'm with Mike on this. I have tried many things, and shooting at dirt tracks the dust flies at the end of the night, nothing really works and most seem to get in the way. I don't change cards nor lenses except back out of the dust.
Ouch Mike, that's exactly the kind of environment i am going to encounter.
Not really happy to hear the only solution is to change gear every year, as i am not a pro.
Last year i used a series of 3 Zip Lock bags, glued together to form an extender that permited the use of the 24-105 Zoom.
The first bag had the 1D, and the 2 next bags contained the 24-105.
I sealed the front with a specially glued filter to the last bag that screws in the lens.
This made a 100% dust free bag, at least for the first day.
The problem with this solution was that the plastic bag eventualy teared at the front where the filter was glued and at the middle joint where i was using the zoom.
This DIY manufactured enclosure can be upgraded for this year, but i would feel more confortable with a professionally made enclosure.
Seems there isn't any....niche market !? Or great product oportunity ?
