Just a little bit.

I've been doing some volunteer work to document both the need for improvement and the areas that have been improved upon as part of an effort to revitalize the old downtown area.

Just playing with lines & mood on this one ... creative liberties.

A fine documentary image to my eye, nicely capturing the various brick, glass and decayed wood surfaces and textures. The sun's reflection with nice starburst pulls the eye to the center and holds the image together, and a like the hint of a scene behind the shears and outside, reflected in the window. While my first reaction is that there are too many competing elements, the longer I look the more I discover, making the image much more than it originally appeared to be.
Composed just right.

Great capture color- and lighting-wise, but I find the crop awkward given the camera angle with the top and lower right corner truncated by the crop. It would work better for me showing the entire window and sill framed by the contrasting textures on left and right. Also the white mat is a glaring distraction making it difficult to see the detail in the dark photo. Here a dark umber mat and a deep gold trap rule sampled from the reflections of sun would complement rather than fight with the content.

I do rule/mat as follows:

1) Set foreground to rule color and background to mat color
2) Select all, Stroke, outside 1 px, foreground color
3) Expand canvas (background color by default), centered

Takes less time to do than type....
