p.1 #1 · Plug Adapters

Any recommendations for a universal plug adapter? Planning a trip to Africa and have already spotted three different type plugs. What's in your kit?

This one looks as good as any while also receiving good customer reviews. Even for the price its still a bargain in my view.

This is the one I used last year in South Africa. I believe different parts of Africa have different plugs. This one converts the 220 volts to 120 volts.

Thanks guys. I meant a universal plug, one that adapts for x amount of different countries rather than one for each country. SA, Kenya, Tanzania, Victoria Falls - I counted 3 so far.

sjms - radioshack.com has a bigger selection
All modern electronics that have been verified, so just the plug adapter.

Check out online travel stores. Magellan's (NFI), for example, has country-specific information on what plug types are used in each country and offers universal, or near-universal, adapters. Thay also sell transformers, if needed, and surge protectors. A reliable outfit.

I cant advise to much on actual adapters or what you will come across on your travels but I will say stick whatever you need on the end of a multi strip (usually 4 sockets) of your own normal plugs (which would be the UK 3 pin for me)
its so much easier than getting loads of single adapters and trying to find enough sockets for your stuff. I never seem to be able to find enough un used sockets in hotel rooms

Not sure if this helps but during my trips to Kenya and Tanzania I only needed the one UK (British) plug adapter. I plugged a bunch of North American blocks into it giving me 9 outlets. Since all of the chargers are low draw I never had a problem at any of the tented camps charging various batteries.

The plug you need looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/UNIVERSAL-USA-UK-BRITISH-ADAPTER/dp/B001QFBUL6
