I hope the OP won't mind if I deviate a bit... I have CS5 but got Aperture basically free with a gift card. I have always used Photoshop and am used to that interface. I cannot grasp the Aperture interface and it feels clunky when exporting files to be used in PS. I'd like to know if Lightrooms interface is more conducive to use with PS? Obviously it's an Adobe product but I guess I'm wondering if they "mesh" together better? I currently do all processing in ACR, photoshop and NIK. Never use Aperture. But I do need a system to manage files. Thanks for entertaining the questions in this thread! And, yeah, def. a case of RTFM, but there don't seem to be many of those - it's all online and I prefer those in print! ...Show more →
Sharon, let me start by saying I never used Apature (im not a MAC ) but find that the way LR3 'meshes' with CS5 to be pretty good. Ive probably not fully got it nailed but its good enough for me. but I also find that I hardly ever have to send my files to CS5 as for me LR3 does 95% (maybe more) of what I need.
I only send stuff that needs Layer work really.
would I want to run without CS5, probably not . Could I , probably yes.
But as Adobe provide a full 30day trial why not give it a go . (or give the LR4 beta a go) . my only small gripe with LR3 is the dual monitor use is pretty limited. but someone on here did show a good workaround that works ok.
