+1 Looks like it could be lots of fun
Yep, I like collecting old stuff and also USING it. And to be honest I think I'll often experiment with it for macro. My favorites until now were the 55mmAIS and the 60mmAFS (I use but don't like the 105VR too much in practice), and I guess this 200mm will be added to the list.

I don't care what anyone says, that's DAMN good image quality.
A historical curiosity indeed. I didn't know that lens existed. Thanks!
I have been surprised to find one, they only produced about 2000 of them. And everything is almost like new. IQ is very good, I just noticed some slight vignetting and a bit of corner softness with some close up lenses, but nothing terrible. Exposure is not always spot on (slight overexposure), but I might be the cause, I am still learning how to use it. Hand held focusing @x2 or x3 is a challenge because of the ultra thin DOF because you have to be incredibly stable while pressing the shutter button, and you also have to be perpendicular to the subject, this needs some tests to get used to it, but this is valid for any long macro lens.

Man almost makes me want to sell my 105VR for that.
Not sure this is a good idea, since it can be quite a challenge to find a working copy. The 105VR delivers excellent IQ, even if it is not my favorite macro lens (bulky, very slow focus, quite some hunting for non-macro use). A Zeiss 2.0 might be an interesting choice if you like the focal length, I am also experimenting with that one
