Forgive the newbie... I see there's a category of membership here called 'upload and sell'. Fair enough. I have no desire to upload or to sell, but I DO want to start a 'want to buy' thread.
The software won't allow me to create a thread in the 'Buy & Sell' forum (which seems like the logical place!); what would be the appropriate alternate forum to post a 'WTB'? (for top quality Canon FD glass, I should say).
Hi Mike and welcome aboard. The Upload and Sell link is a the very top of the page along with Forums - Search etc. You will have to subscribe to post a WTB, FS or FT. There are various options so you can pick how long you want to subscribe for.

That's... counter-intuitive! Suggest an FAQ item, and a rename to 'Upload, buy & sell'.
It's not unreasonable to expect someone to pay for selling something; that's the ebay business model, the seller may be making a profit. It's not obvious or justifiable to me that posting a WTB should also be something you're expected to pay for.

FM's B&S is the best on the net. Small price to pay for such exposure to Buy, Sell, Trade with a great community
of photographers. There's no free lunch maintaining such an awesome site, and if you can't see that...then thanks anyway.

Must agree w/ Mr. T'Monkey about this being one of/ if not the safest B&S places on the net. the small amt. of cash to be a B&S member is...wait for it...priceless.

I'm not sure if you've already tried, but search for the item you want to buy. If it's available, then all you have to do is reach out to the seller via Private Message, and reply to his/her thread with 'PM sent', free-of-charge.
Sorry if I came across a little cheeky, wasn't intended as such - it IS confusing, you join the site primarily to post a WTB, not sell, and then discover you have to pay to post a WTB ad.
I will scan the ads in case what I'm looking for comes up, but it's a bit rare (I need some top-end FD glass, L or aspherical, fast primes such as 50/1.2 L, 24/1.4, maybe 35mm TS, to go along with my 85/1.2 L I've come to love) - hence I thought I'd try a WTB.
