I've been a freelance photographer for a couple years now-but only shooting for one publication. I have a full time job that I can't stand and I am slowly making the transition into becoming a full time freelancer.
The problem is, I've got the photo side down, but we learned almost NOTHING about the business side of things at the photo school I went to, unfortunately.
I've been to Barnes N Noble to browse this topic, as well as many google searches, but I'm wondering if anybody here has any good resources of where to look for information on the business side of freelance photography?
Such as, equipment and liability insurance, taxes, copyright laws and practices, self promotion, accounting, and any other shop-running knowledge I'll need.
Also-I've been "lurking" here for a little bit and I finally joined up, really looking forward to sharing photos and joining in on discussions!
I like John Harrington's book "Best Business Practices for Photographers" and the ASMP book "Business Practices for Professional Photography" for lots of info on contracts, releases, paperwork, etc.
For advice on your tax situation, I suggest finding a local tax professional (tax preparer, EA, CPA, etc) for advice.
