does anyone know what is the limited size in CF capacity that D300 can / can't read/write?
I am thinking of getting the 64G CF card or even 128G CF card.

I did not tried more than 16GB cards on my former D300 but I use My D700 with 32GB cards. D700 is not smart enough to manage from start the size, giving a totally wrong number of estimated pictures, as for a 16GB card... and when it comes to 0 it starts again as with a new empty 16GB card... That's funny but sometimes is confusing...

You can always call Nikon for the latest. 800.645.6687. Did you check the manual?
I called Nikon and for some reason, they give me a run around answer. I first called them, they said, no, then called again they said yet.
I checked with nikon website by following your link. D300 version 1.10 does not support memory change and my camera is on the lastest firmware .
Thank you everyone for helping. bottom line D300 currently can not support anything more than 32G memory CF card. I am out of luck .

Most manufacturers will only comment on card that were available and tested prior to the body's release.
64gig is cost effective, 128 cost more than the equipment.
Transcend 64gig 400 work fine. www.mydigitaldiscount.com
I beg to ask why you'd want to go so large? I use 16 gb cards in my D300s and get about 800 shots per card in raw+jpeg. I wouldn't trust any more than that on one card anyway - too much to loose if the card craps out.

This guy speaks the truth. Seriously, why do you want 64Gb of images on one card? That is a lot of risk you are taking on either losing the card, or having some sort of read error.

Well, I'm considering that is much risk to replace the CF cards during the shooting session... either to lose one or worse to bend the pins... It happen one time to bend the pins of my D700... It really was a PITA. For my D7000 I solved the problem in a great way... I have two x 64 GB Sandisk cards installed and I never filled them up... I've been shooting a four day conference and I still had left some space on the second card...
