A few shots from today's game. It was an outdoor rink and the weather was very good but cold. Also, got lucky...was allowed to go into the penalty box to take the photos.
White balance seems a bit on the cold side to my eye (could be my monitor - or maybe they really are cold!) and I think a touch of contrast would spiff them up, but from a composition standpoint these are pretty good. For me, they get progressively better from start to finish.
Couple of nits: Unfortunately you can't see the player's number that scored in #7. Did you get a jube shot afterward? That would make a nice inset on the photo.
I'd crop the foreground player out in #5.
Ideally I like shots of players with the puck that are looking down ice for a teammate. These present the best 'face' (see image #1 - even though he doesn't have the puck). I realize that happens less at this level, but it's still a moment to look for when you're shooting.
GT, thanks for the input. Unfortunately, I did not get the jube shot since he is not in our team (we lost)... I shot these with 7D and 70-200 2.8 v.1 with manual setting (if I am not mistaken, ISO around 1600, f3.2 and shutter speed of 500).
Pretty good set here really... lots of pucks and faces and generally good colors and framing. I'd likely punch up a couple of these with some curves/levels, but really you've got some nice stuff going on in there. WB isn't bad to my eye, but I do agree with GT they come off just a little on the cool side to me. Well done!
