I will check. I never saw a EVF that made me comfortable. But I like to learn. Maybe they can convince me.

What does it say about us as a group that so many voted for a body that does not exist, and there are no evident plans that it ever will exist? A strange mix of dissatisfaction and misplaced optimism.

******************

If I had the money, the 1DX in a second. I could use more MP, but I'm sure the 18MP will be plenty.

Practically speaking, the 5D3 is probably my next new DSLR.

In all likelihood, the G1X will be my next camera purchase, unless a 5D3 is announced.

*******************

D700? Really? Not only bad video, but no video. How many MP? This is the "pro" camera for Fred Flintstone, not a modern contender for top camera. Granted, it's okay, but not an option described on this dream list.

It's states nothing new. Canon users want and have always wanted a D700. It's going on 4yrs old so don't think it would be tough to add 6MP and a card slot 3.5yrs later for an extra $500. The 3DX (modern day D700) was spec'd conservatively and overpriced, yet it was still the popular vote. Make your own conclusions.

Again, it's 3.5yrs old and still a top contender and a modern D700 would surely have all the latest bells/whistles and MP.

I'm sorry, how, exactly, would you define "pro sensor"? I've seen that (awful) term thrown around here lately, but never really understood what it means.

3Dx, 1D IV, 1Ds III and 5D II had (the last 3 years). 3Ds had a kind of. Maybe 4D and 1D X have one, too.

What is this "3Dx" and "3Ds" you speak of?

A modern Nikon would have all the latest ...
I am waiting for it. An old Canon imo still has ...

Those 3Ds and 3DX are/where Nikons Flagships before 4D. You might have heard about ... as far I know 3Dx still is the Nikon flagship in IQ and MP if you do not look for ISO (over 1600 - what is importat for me). 3Ds is the Nikon 3d follow up to get in touch to high ISO at a 3 years back level of resolution (12MP). That was what I spoke of.

"pro sensor" means to me: "state of the art" IQ at Res & ISO what I need. By that state of the art means compared to the actual standard, not one generation back. A "pro" body should not offer the same quality at 50% resolution of the standard. Concerning that means: a 1D II, III or IV offers great IQ. Based on standards set 7, 5, 3 years ago. Its not "pro" any longer at actual compare. So Nikon had Nikon "pro bodies". Before 3DX they where below standard stuff, when they where announced. 3DX was too, in case of ISO. 4D looks the same. 16MP at 3Ds high ISO IQ is not what should be possible after 3 years. Itīs just what Nikon offers NOW.

You understand, what I mean?

For 1DX that means to me: If IQ at ISO 25.600 is not comparable or better than 5D MK IIs ISO 6400 at its lower resolution for me that "gun" is dead! I do not need/care about 11FPS. I would like to get the world finest AF. But I would not spend 4 times the money of an 5D MK II on that. Instead I would buy a second body and 3 more lenses. Everything is important to me. But IQbeats speed and lazy focus issues. It is that easy. A lens is a one time invest for 10-15 years. No body ever was.

Hmmm. . . I never wanted a D700. Against the 5Dc, the D700 is a clear winner. Compared to the 5D2 (except for the AF) it comes in a distant second. As stated, Canon had about three years head start by the time the D700 arrived.

If you're going to bash a company you should really get the proper product names down first--Nikon has never released a camera by the name of "3D", "3Dx", "3Ds" or "4D". As for your definition of "pro sensor"...that is hands down one of the most ridiculous opinions I've heard to date--So no, I don't understand what you mean...not even in the slightest.

Yes, you are right. Sorry about my failure concerning the names.
I did not try to bash any company. I just answered YOUR question. If it is not the answer you wanted to hear, I am sorry about that, too.

Ralph, everyone knows of your subjective, baseless, one-sided stance in regards to Nikon vs. Canon; I'm not sure why you try to hide it (especially since you state you're a fanboi all by yourself). As for my question, yes you did answer it for me and, believe it or not, it was what I was expecting to hear from you. It really has nothing to do with what I wanted to hear, more so with the fact that it's ridiculous. At the end of the day, the world still turns and my making a living using non-professional outdated cameras, as you call them, progresses

You seem not to know of my subject. - I did not make any non-pro outdated camera issues. That is your idea. In my world each camera that helps one to achive pictures he/she wants to make or even sell is a pro. Nikon is great! I never made any else statement. They just did never support my needs.
In DSLR. I remember to the F5. I shot with it and it was amazing. In digital Nikon always was way behind Canon and imo still is. This is MY opinion and MY experience from the last decade. Can this be okay for you? It just means, that your needs fullfiled by Nikon are not mine?

I expected nothing else hearing from you, too.

But I can tell you: I will be the first one, who switches lines, if Nikon supports my needs and I can pay the price. So long they do not, let me just be a Canon fanboy as long Canon does. I let you be a Nikonian one, too.

In my opinion itīs not the gear that makes anybody a photographer. Nikon gear is great and would deliver my needs in 60-70%. Doing a pro job. But I do not like the idea to invest in another system to get the missing 30-40%. I am looking for ONE camera that gives me the freedom to have 90-95% done. Professional like as a hobby. Maybe it is to much, what I expect.
D4 (right now?) could have been this camera. If they would have enhanced ISO. What Nikon was not able to do (if, they would have done). 1D X might be that camera, if their promises came out as the truth and I can afford it.
Itīs that easy. We do not have to fight against each other caused by gear. My photographic behavior and needs may be different from yours. And may be supported by a different manufacturer than your favourite one.

If yo are happy, I am fine. If you feel, you have to convince me I only can be happy with your choice, I am not. But I want to be happy, too. And I do not care about your wishes, if that means, I can not choose whatever I want to, to feel good. Itīs that easy. If Nikon gives me a body, I want, I will purchase it. And I will find a solution for my missing favorite lenses (taht is another part. What I need and like to use in lenses is not offerd by your favorite. Or if in lower quality or/and much more expensive). If they do not, I will stay with the company that does. A rebirth of Minolta would be great for me.

In my whole life I have taken pictures with maybe 35 different cameras from Hasselblad, Leica, Mamiya, Sinar, Kosmos, Kodak, Porst, Cosina, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Minolta, Revue, Panasonic, Fuji, Apple, Motorola, etc., etc., etc. ...
I am 50 years old now. And started shooting since I was 16. Is it really a problem for you that I decided for my needs their is no better choice than the actual Canon 5D MK II? Because still no other manufacturer offers what I need? (D800 is still a rumor).

Beleive me: If Nikon offers a 5D MK II like camera tomorrow at 2 stops further high ISO at a price I can afford (Canon 5D MK II level +/- 500$) it will be mine. I will buy it immediatelly even it would not have a thump scroll, one of the the best tools I ever used on any camera (sorry, that is MY reality, too). But I am able to learn how to use worse gear if the result forces me to do. I did many times in my life.

I am happy, that you are succesfull in your business. And that Nikon supports your needs.
I would like, if you could do/be the same with me. If not, you might ask yourself, if you are happy or if you just talk about beeing it ... than I do not care about.

Ralph

I voted for the 1Dx but then would love a 3Dxs as a backup.

I have 1D3 but it's a pain to take to parties etc, so I'd like the 3Dxs as a go anywhere camera.

Shame that I can't see it happening as Canon seem to have written of the 1.3 sensor for now.

Sweeeeeeeeet! I loved the old OM-system and can't wait for the expected announcement of the OM-D next month! My days with Canon may be numbered.

If the 5DIII is announced soon with a newer AF system I imagine you'll be seeing a lot of these for sale at a much lower price than they are currently selling for.

Voted 5DX but:

I would go for for a NEW Canon Mirrorless system with (PDAF+CDAF)+AF+in camera EVF and APS-C sensor at $1000.

Small Pancakes to keep it small and EF adapter.

And call it a day.
