Talk like that we may get us all in trouble i.e. Canon may intentionally cripple the next iteration of the 5D.

I hope that Canon would announce a smaller FF body, call it the successor of the 5D Mark II and they can call it whatever they want, before the 1D X becomes available in April. If they do, then I will cancel my pre-order for a 1D X and wait a little longer for that camera. To be honest, the FPS rate of the 1D X is way over kill for my need anyway. I like the idea of being able to use high ISO settings but I am happy just with a clean ISO 3200 setting.
Well, I left something out .... I would like the camera to have better outer AF points than the current 5D Mark II. Basically, I would be perfectly happy with a FF "7D" type camera with a slightly more MP (up to 28MP or so) and a slightly better high ISO characteristics (up to ISO 3200).
I would buy 5DIII with better AF and faster FPS, 5-6fps will be fine. I prefer weathersealed and not crazy expensive body, current price for mk II is OK. No video, no flip-flop LCD is extra wish options to me and I would say my big thanks to Canon! Forget, current mpx is fine, 16mpx would be even better.
For wedding photography the primary need from a camera is ISO 3200 and fast and accurate low light autofocus. The 1D Mark III/IV and D3 provide this now. The 1DX may when it actually is available to buy.
The 5D Mark II would be more than enough camera if the autofocus was on par with that of the 1D cameras. I would rather buy 3 cameras like the 5D Mark II for $6225 at the current price at B&H than a single D4 or 1DX but for the autofocus.
I can fix a lot in Photoshop but not OOF images or recreate shots missed because the camera could not lock focus in a low light situation.
'Tomorrow never comes' as the saying goes...but the global economic decline will...so in reality, all bets might be off regarding products and pricing by this time next year....
I voted for the 5DX, but in truth I wouldn't jump on that right away either.
I'd wait a few months for the early adopters to flush out the issues and post images samples. Even then, I'm pretty happy with the 5D2.
The pixel count would be of less importance to me than lack of banding and super clean
low ISO performance.
I do want a high pixel count, since I do landscape shooting, but I haven't yet printed
many shots above 18"x12" in size. The 5D and 5D2 are adequate for that.
Didn't mean "pro-sensor", meant pro-camera. Don't even know what a "pro-sensor" would be. Until CPS switched over to their point system, the 5D's were considered prosumer cameras, so Canon itself designated it as a non-pro body.
A 5DIII with a) useable outer focus points and b) intelligently placed focus points would be the bees knees. Focus/recompose simply doesn't always work with fast lenses. I'd pay $3500 for a 5D that simply did "a" and "b" above...no other improvements needed.
The 7D with the APS-H sensor that is in the 1D-IV. Just wonder if the marketing department at Canon think there is now space in their lineup for that since the announcement of the FF 1DX.

This would be the 3DXs option above. I doubt Canon would do it but I couldn't leave out the 1.3x crowd so I made it an option. I personally would love one.

That sounds like a Nikon D700 to me.
D700 was a three years needed answer to 5D. It has better AF, but like D3 no pro sensor. 3Dx, 1D IV, 1Ds III and 5D II had (the last 3 years). 3Ds had a kind of. Maybe 4D and 1D X have one, too. We will see.
And yes, feel free to call me a "Canon fanboy".
