I have an old Gitzo tripod that is also a monopod. One leg unscrews. When I unscrew that leg, I see a hole where a screw would go. What is the correct "thing to do" to make it into a monopod? I want to mount a chrome Leitz tilt accessory tripod top that has a female flat bottom where the other end of a screw would go.
I called them last week for my part and I had to talk to an answering machine. The message said they will call me back. Sure they will. No call back. No customer service for Manfrotto?
Thanks, Guy. I remember reading that thread. Thanks for coming up with a solution. I just ordered the correct bolt to make the tripod leg into a monopod from Great Britan. What a disgusting commentary on Manfrotto's parts distrubution in North America.
i own a Gitzo G1322 mono tripod same problem. i got a 3/8 stud and a locking ring, which i screwed into the leg with enough of the the stud exposed to be able to attach a ball or gimble head. simple it ain't rocket science, lol
I ordered the "official part". It looks like brass in the online picture. I thought about going to the hardware store but I wanted "the real thing". Now I wait.
It took me multiple calls/emails to get a part from Manfrotto. I think they finally got tired of me bothering them because they sent me what I wanted for free.
Well, last night, before I ordered from "Gitzo Spares" in the UK, I gave Manfrotto another email and I asked them why they never called me back, as I had left a phone message. Maybe they will respond after I placed my order in the UK, which would be a silly thing to do now. If it is free, it is not worth anything. No free work this year.
Manfrotto never got back to me at all. The part came from GItzo Spares today in the UK. I tried the bolt out. It is 1/4 20 and 3/8 I suppose. I un-screwed one leg of the tripod and screwed in the bolt with the attachment nut. I mounted a Leitz tripod head and then a Nikon SB800 with the accessory plastic plate and the rig works fine to handhold a speedlight. Unscrewing the bolt is another matter. Do I have to carry a socket and a wrench with me to take the bolt out so that I can then screw the leg back into the tripod? How silly of a deployment. Another use; I screwed the bolt under the center column of the Gitzo tripod. Not only "do I know where the bolt is", but I can mount a camera or flash in that low position using the Leitz head. Anyone else doing any of this?
