i see no difference whatsoever at 1600, but the canon is clearly superior at 3200. That 100% crop on the 5D is very impressive.
Its funny, when I look at the images in LR the 5d looks better at 1600, but when I posted the crops to Smugmug and posted them here they look nearly identical.
Its amazing what that damn 6 year old "obsolete" 5d is capable of.

Thanks.

Not to belabor an oft-repeated point made in this forum, but you should compare them after re-sizing them to equivalent sizes.
Good point. I was trying to avoid doing that for 2 reasons:
1. 12mp and 16mp are pretty close.
2. People always seem to argue about whether its "fairest" to upsize the smaller image or downsize the larger image.
^Could be avoided by changing the (III) to "part 3".
The tonal gradations look better in the Canon crops, IMO. The 5N seems to have a poorer color palette, which can even be seen in the full images. White balancing (and exposure) doesn't look identical though, so this could be playing a role here.

I clicked on this because the title said "5D (III)"

The 5d has been known to produce brighter exposures for a given ISO, I think I read somewhere that ISO 800 on the 5d is more like ISO 1000 on most cameras. For the same exposure settings the 5d is always a little brighter.
The WB was adjusted for each in LR to be equal. That being said I usually prefer the 5d colors to the 5N, although I wouldn't say that I dislike the 5N colors.
I will disappoint you, 5D ISO 800 actually isnt even ISO 800. Tho for today standarts its remarkably close to what it should be. But I guess that not many cameras will follow original 1Ds pattern (calibrated ISO so ISO 800 is really ISO 800).
5N has pretty high color accuracy in natural light, tho probably not that much in artificial. If you get correct WB, it should show.. Tho maybe it will just work better with ZA lens or Minolta ones.
