p.1 #1 · Bag recommendation

Looking for a bag that will hold my 5D2 with lens mounted (i.e. 24-70) and one extra lens
(i.e. 70-200), The smaller the better. Thanks

Don

Think Tank "Urban Disguise 35" will hold that nicely. It is a shoulder bag.
Also, the Think Tank "Retrospective 20" will work, but is somewhat larger.

I have a crumpler 5 million dollar home that will probaby fit that tightly -- the 6mdh might be a better fit.

Ah-ha ... you changed your original post, and that makes a big difference!

If you only want the 24-70L mounted, not the 70-200L, it opens up a whole different field of bag options. There are not a lot of "small" bags that will hold a mounted 70-200L f/2.8!

The Think Tank "Retrospective 10" would be an option, I think some people use a Domke F-5XC for just two lenses, and I use a Billingham "207" for that, which also has room for a flash and a TC or small prime (35L) ... and it is rainproof without a fussy rain-cover which hinders access. I also use a ONA "Union Street" to carry that combination in a thin profile bag.

Howard...you're very observant, I should have noted I made a change to my original request .

I looked at the Domke and Crumpler bags recommended and both could work. But, I think the TT Retrospective 10 comes closest to what I'm looking for.. Going to try it out tomorrow at a local shop.

Thanks to all for your recommendations. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Cheers

Don

Second the crumpler bags, I love my 7mdh bag however way too big for what you are asking. Try a smaller one or the think tanks, those rock as well. Suggest hitting a camera store to try first.

+1 on that...i have a ud35 and it is just about perfect for what you are looking for. in a pinch i have had my d3 with 24-70 attached, a 70-200vr and a 24-24 (in the outside pocket). that combo was pretty heavy but i did lug it around greece and england for two weeks...great bag.

I recommend the ThinkTank Retrospective 10!!!
Yes it is a small bag, but I can put inside 5dmII w/Grip with 70-200 2.8 (hood reversed)!
And i can pack it together with 24-70 w/hood and 17-40!
So that bag is not so small!!
Retrospective 20 as far as I have understood is only few cm taller than retrospective 10!

For my gear mentioned above Retrospective10 is very usable! Only for better handling it could be 2-3 cm wider - no room for flash in pocket designed for that so I put my flash in front pocket!

Janis

I had the TT Retro-5 for one day but it was a near skin fit for my A900 with my CZ 135 (hood reversed). No room for anything else, and not so accessible when removing the camera. So, I opted for the Retro-10 which arrives on Monday.

I found that you can measure everything you have against bag specs, but it never seems to quite work out with soft sided bags. You're lucky to have access to quality bags to test fit. I'm forced to be a mail order dice roller.
