p.1 #1 · Refilling ink on pixma PRO 9000 II cartridges
Checking in to see if anyone has details on how to refill ink cartridges on canon PIXMA PRO 9000 II printer. based on the previous thread, the following is the summary thread
Refilling may not produce as good a result as the orginal ink does. OEM is the way to go for quailty, though it has been suggested that high grade ink may be as good if not the same as the OEM cartridges
There is a Lyson CIS option to get refilliable catridges, but these will run you a bit of investment
Recommended ink was german made OCP. I ordered mine through http://www.rjettek.com/ as there were recommended by a couple of folks
You also need a chip resetter, these can be purchased on Ebay for ~ USD 20 shipped.
Does anyone have a writeup of how exactly they fill up the empty cartridges? Is it as simple as
1) use chip resetter
2) fill in the tank using a syringe (which gauge is ideal? )
3) close the hole using tape

Making the hole to fill the cart is the 'difficult' bit!!
Under the Canon tape on top, about 20mm from the front of the cart, you will see or feel a small circular indentation, 3mm in dia.. You need a sharp craft knife or similar to cut round it and peel off that small area of tape. Under it you will see the original filling hole...it is actually sealed by a small plastic ball.
You can see it quite easily if you look at the cart from the side....the hole protrudes slightly into the ink chamber.
After a little experimentation I found the easiest way to remove this ball is to get a thin self tapping type screw of about 2mm dia, hold the head with pliers and heat the sharp end on a gas ring for a few seconds, then push it into the small ball. Being hot, it will melt itself into the ball a mm or so...then give it a few seconds for the ball to harden again.
Then just yank on the screw with the pliers...the ball should pop out with it. It takes a couple of minutes a cart. If the screw separates from the ball repeat the process but heat the screw a little longer so it goes in a bit better. Make sure you hit the centre of the ball, not the surrounding bit of the cart hole, as you want to avoid messing up the resulting hole left by the ball...which ideally you will eventually seal with a 3mm rubber bung...I found mine on eBay but some inkjet places list them. Or use tape, but not quite so convenient.

Earlier today my black cart flashed empty...so as usual I topped them all up and reset the chips.....the printer now thinks it has a completely new set.
The reason I do this is because it saves time, and it saves ink flushes...the printer won't do another flush until one of the now full carts becomes empty...probably the black, the images I print...then I shall do the same again.
PS As it happens I rarely touch the red or green carts.....since I have owned the printer they have needed filling just once......the rest are on their forth or fifth top-ups....mostly brought on by the black emptying!

ha ha. you should take a video of it and post it !! j/k. Thanks again for the help, I suspect its a many months before I need to fill them up, but at least now I know what would be involved

Filled the PM cartridge today and removing the ball was not too bad following your direction with a minor twist. I created a small drill hole using 1/16th bit and followed by a screw and yanking out the ball.
The hardest part so far was finding a plug for hole. I didnt order it with the ink and RJTeck has a minimun order value. Refill shops around town refused to sell the part so I ended up getting a cork plug 1/4 inch from lowes.
Just printed a photo with the refilled cartridge and we are good to go.

Why even bother removing the ball? I have been refilling cartridges for quite awhile. I just pushed the ball into the cartridge, refilled, and stopped it with a plug. The ball can't go anywhere, and it doesn't bother the sponge.

Exactly. Some ink supplies even give you a plastic tool with a rounded tip. You just whack it, fill it and plug it.
+1 on OCP inks from rjettek. 8oz bottles good for about 16 fills. All 8 inks for about $75.
