Hey guys. A friend of mine is looking for a new camera and I am not sure what to tell him. His budget is $1500 and he wants something for everyday purpose but also be able to change lenses around. He wants it to be compact. I told him to get the Sony NEX-5N. What other cameras can I tell him that's similar?
The x100 is a fixed lens camera. It has a 35mm equiv lens. If he is looking for an interchangeable lens system then look into the nex 5n, nex 7, Nikon j1, Nikon v1 and the Panasonic gX1.
Thanks Liv, yes that was the thing, he wanted to be able to change lenses, he would like to be able to change lenses, use zoom lenses once in a while. I'll give him all those models and see what he likes.
Does the x100 come w some sort of adapters that I am not aware of, like the new nikon system?
Woud not one of the rebel kits answer his call? Some of these are as inexpensive as $600 w/ a kit lens. Your friend could then add a 70/200 4 and or a 135 and stay w/ in budget. That is where I would lead him.
Suggesting a fixed lens camera would not meet his needs, as you stated.
If you really want compact, any of the u4/3 or sony will fit the bill, but you do lose certain things. The olympus does have several nice, fast primes in their arsenal -- like the 45 1.8
I really like the x100 also Danyprod too. Great camera. If it did come with some adapter to get a perspective of 100-ish that would be wonderful. Something very special about the x100.
The x100 was on my list, however, Santa dropped off a space heater for my office in the basement.
Overall it is amazing to me that $1500 can get you a dslr, kit and L series lens; pretty cool.
You should check out Andy's blog which has a lot of recent experience and opinions about the Nikon V1. He's pretty positive about it, and is an extremely experienced guy:
