Thank you for the heads up rscheffler. Where I live astro turf is a luxury and natural turf that is more conducive for planting tomatoes and potatoes are the norm.
With shooting conditions like that it may be better that I shoot from higher up in the bleachers than in the sidelines.

Adaptive optics! Astronomers do it all the time. Check out the Wikipedia article on it. I shudder to think what Canon would charge for such a lens/camera system.
