p.1 #1 · Quantum T5-DR / Pilot /

I have recently bought a T5dr flash head, FW7Q receiver and a Pilot QF9.

Maybe it is just me or does anyone else find that the manuals are rubbish?

I want to set up the system with my Nikon D3 so that I can use wireless manual. I just don't understand how to set up so that I can control the flash output in 1/3 stop increments making the adjustments on the Pilot.

Any help would be appreciated.

For general use there's not that much which isn't common sense really...

Set your FW7Q receiver to the channel you want to use by setting the rotational selector between 0-7
Set the mode of your remote T5dr to Remote Group 1 (or Remote Group 2)
Set your Pilot to match the same radio channel that your receiver is set for
Your Pilot will now control your remote T5dr. Use the buttons to scroll through the flash group options, modes and output/FEC levels and the left-right button to change the setting.

With your pilot having the remote group 1 set to Manual, the power setting can be scrolled down (left) or up (right) by selecting it. The quick key selector beneath the output/FEC level will select that column and scroll down (if you have multiple remote groups).

Ian, Thanks for your response which helped me to get the problem sorted.

Now wondering if anyone can tell me why I can not achieve a full image with flash sync speeds of 1/200sec or faster with either the D3 or D700?

Do you have the current firmware QF09_04.03 on your Pilot? This works fine at 1/250s with D3x, D2x, D2H, D7000 that I've tried. Previous versions had the issue you mentioned.

You can download the firmware from QTM.com in the support section.

Jack,

There are some very good "getting started" videos on the Quantum web site. I believe Will Crockett does them.

Yes, Will Crockett is definitely a good source for help with Quantum equipment.

Once you get past the learning curve on the menu navigation the Pilot and T5D-R kit will make you smile. I put my self through a lot of diffrent situations to train myself with fast navigation. It's not a perfect system but almost. What took me a while to get past was the Trio and Pilot menus are very diffrent. When moving from one from the other it can slow you down with menu navigation if you havent trained a lot with both. The T5D-R menu can piss me off sometimes when I havenet used it in a while, but it all comes back. Enjoy
