Some months ago, we had a CNX2 benchmarking exercise over at another forum.
Due to new version, I reran the excercise. Basically it is 100 D3s NEF files, some settings applied, stored in lossless compressed NEF. Nothing special, just a quick test.
Accross 3 different CPU types the avg, speed increase is approx 15-16%. Looks to me that it is rather a recompile of the existing codebase, with no new algorithms and leveraging new hardware features like AVX.
Also noteworthy is the increase in energy efficiency in the last years. The 4 year old MacPro is (unfortunately) a class in its own with regards to power consumption. Especially efficient is the Lenovo X220 subnotebook (3 lbs.). 8 Watt of consumption in idle mode and only 14 watt with the fastest execution speed of my 4 "testbeds" is remarkable.
Just installed it on my Win7 64bit machine and everything went just fine. No reboot required. Just had to re-type in the product key again and it was good to go. Does seem a bit snappier, but maybe it's just the new software placebo effect.

Would cool to see test run on apature and Lightroom, and view nx2 too. I recently post processed a friends wedding all in view nx2, didn't have to open capture nx2 once. Which I was surprised at.
It is a shame that this upgrade doesn't support PowerPC G5 machine. This upgrade only supports IntelMac machines. I wanted the upgrade to read raw nef files from the new V1D1 cameras.

I hope this means NX3 is just around the corner.
If they can make software that is as snappy as LR/ACR I am going to fork over some cash.
Think I read elsewhere that NX1 go a major performance increase before NX2 came out, so hopefully you might be right!!
If they did, and you had NX3 that could use all the Nik plug-ins (Color Efex 4, Silver Efex 2), add the fact Photo Mechanic 5 and it's new catalog program is also coming in 2012, could make things interesting..........and then you have Adobe's new upgrade policy coming into force next year.........
Okay back to the real world and to processing images with Lightroom 3 and CS5

It appears that Capture Nx2 version 2.3.0 does not support Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0in 64bit mode. A bit disappointing.
Yeah, this sucks. Goig to have to stick with the 32bit version for now
