It's depended. Last Friday I saw the 35L list for $1,183, then plus S&H and taxes, it's almost $1,300 when I can get new one from B&H for $1,245 or something with free S&H.
When you buy things from the net, you're supposed to pay tax to your state. So for me, I'd have to spend 1245 to BH, then add 6% sales tax that I'd pay to the state. So it's a bit closer in price, but still, when it's that close, new over refurb anyday.
It looks like the 35 L and 85 f1.8 are back in stock, sale still going.... I just got my tracking number for a 5D II and 17-40 L. I have been wanting a second 5D II body, so this was too good to pass up.
I was going to get the 5D2 refurb .. but at the current price 1699 + tax + shipping .. its not that far off from brand new 5D2 from B&H at $2039. good thing they are out of stock of the refurb

85 still in.
Ship11 is no longer a valid promo code.
Yeah just as I was in the process of checking out, the 35L went poof The sale is going on thru Saturday per the email I received from Canon today so maybe there will be another chance...

w/ a refurb you do not get the original canon box for that particular refurb item or the blank warranty card.
there is a small gold sticker that says refurb, but that can be peeled off.
i doubt the date code changes, date codes are really overrated anyhow. the date code and serial number could change, but i am not sure how one could really know unless they work on the inside for canon.
it comes w/ everything that a new one comes w/ except for original box and blank warranty card.
you may have trouble selling your refurb'd lens or any lens, depending on how much you are asking for the lens vs. potential buyers wants, needs, understandings, misunderstandings.
i look at refurbs as used lenses w/ a 90 day warranty (adorama offers a 1 year deal thru them, but i would almost bet my left nut it isn't so easy to deal w/)....if it's damaged or crazy worn or doesn't work properly i can understand not being happy w/ the purchase. but people buy these cameras and they may have a few thousand shutter clicks and they cry. big deal. go buy a point and shoot and sit on the internet all day and talk about all the gear you are going to own. on the flipside some may have less than 10 shutter clicks..these folks feel like they hit the jackpot.
remember some of these lenses are in almost like new condition. i have several lenses and bodies that are refurbs and they do look like new gear when i've opened the box. i also had one body where the focus screen tab was broken right out of the box...canon replaced it very quickly.

Still see the 70-200 f4 IS on there. Not in the market for that. But think I willgrab a 50 1.8 to throw in my bag for my upcoming Japan trip. Thx for posting.
