I just purchased the 70-200 2.8 II, and did some side by side comparisons with my favorite lens (and my sharpest lens) the Canon 180 macro.
In summary, I'm impressed!
This was just shooting some fine print against the wall, but wide open, the center sharpness of the 70-200 at 2.8 at 200mm appears to equal my 180 macro at 3.5. The macro starts to pull ahead towards the edges.
Shooting them both at f/8 it's hard to distinguish which lens took which picture? They appear nearly identical from the center outward. Nice work on this one Canon!
Enough pixel pimping, I need to get this out in to the field!
