Mark,
Nice grunge feel to this shot. The background looks like spot fires and smoke plume to me. Not sure if anyone else sees this.
Hi John,
Thanks for the comment. I picked that BG because it looked like fire and smoke. It is in fact fire and smoke from a distant factory and the other "spot fires" are lights.
Great shot. Just one thing is that the subject looks a little soft. Is that the effect you were going for with the 1.4 apperture? I have never shot with a 1.4 so not sure if that is normal.

Thanks Bert,
You are right, this is a soft shot. The 35 1.4 is capable of producing really sharp shots at f1.4 though. I was moving around shooting this and with the slow shutter speed I got some motion softness in there. It was the only shot I got with this pose that looked good so I went with it. Here's another shot from the series that shows the typical sharpness at f1.4. It's really a fun lens to use in low-light shooting like this, but it's not too user-friendly for guys like me that don't know what they are doing though

Hi Carolyn,
Thanks again for your continued nice comments. I have admired your work for a long time so it means a lot when I hear you like something. My niece is a really cool person. She lives downtown and loves to be in tune with the pulse of the city. When I told her about the assignment she knew exactly where to go and what to wear.
