I tried the Black Rapid and it just did not work for me. It always seemed like the thing was swinging to and fro. I am now using the UPstrap. Really comfortable and the quick release comes in handy when your putting the camera on a tripod and don't want a big strap dangling everywhere. http://www.upstrap-pro.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_code=SLR-QR-H
BlackRapids BRAD mod prevents the strap from swinging back and forth. It comes with RS-Sport, RS-Sport 2 or you can purchase it separately. I reviewed both and have a comparison of both of them.

there are reasons to dislike the Nikon strap but ruggedness is not one of them.
I hate the Nikon straps. They are so uncomfortable. Used the Nikon strap when I bought my D70s from my uncle and the strap either scratched my neck, hurt my neck or made it uncomfortable. Got the OpTech Pro strap and that made things better. Sold my D70s and got a D7000. Sold the OpTech and I've been using BlackRapid. I didn't even bother taking the Nikon strap that came with the D7000 out of its package.
Optech Classic Pro-loop. Nice and comfortable, some stretch makes it easy on your neck. I have one, though I practically never use it. Most of my time I use the camera on a tripod, and when I do need to carry it on my chest I use quick-disconnects to attach it to the straps of my backpack, then use the sternum strap on the backpack to keep the camera close to the body so it does not bang against my chest as I walk and try to avoid obstacles.
