Actually - In a way, u are right - for any sort of wildlife trips with the 400/2.8. I have plans next year sometime to visit Africa, at which point i will need to invest in a super telephoto. Of course, I don't think I'll be able to afford a 400/2.8, especially at the rate lens prices are climbing - I'm thinking maybe a 70-200L II or 300.

you can always just rent one for the trip. it's worth while if you only take such trips every few years.

That being said, I am really looking forward to the day that Sony releases a full frame NEX.

me too, but i'm not holding my breath.

Sebboh - You have some awesome images on the NEX thread! Pretty impressive - also some of the NEX5n images people have posted are great.

thanks!

when you were talking about not being satisfied with the micro contrast on the NEX, was that with the 28 cron? or leica lenses on the NEX in general? i'm curious as i'm contemplating trimming my gear a bit and getting a modern leica lens for when i only want one lens. i really like what i've seen from the 28 cron on the m9 and it is the perfect focal length, but haven't seen much to judge what it'll be like on the NEX.

I meant all Leica lenses in general - but particularly the 28 Cron and the 35 Cron (both asph versions). On the M9, these 2 lenses produce insane image quality - And espeically the 28 has a very unique rendering style (combination of modern/sharp and old/smooth) if that makes sense. *Don't* set your expectations of this being a benchmark for the IQ you will get on the NEX.

The 50 Lux (Asph) and the 90 Summicron (Asph and non Asph) both produced excellent results on the NEX. Unfortunately I didn't get to try the Summilux 24 or 35 on the Nex - but I would suspect they would yield excellent results.

If you have both the NEX and an M camera, then it doesn't really matter--use whatever u use on the Leica or the NEX If the NEX was my only camera, then I would probably just get something like a Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Lens and call it a day!

E-p3 with Oly 17 or Panasonic 14, 20 or 25... whichever FL suits you. I'm happy with the little 17, but I shoot stopped down. My GF has a Panasonic 20 that is probably better. The 25 is bigger.

50mm is a little long for guess focusing IMO, but would be nice never the less!

So far it's usually ended up being 1DsII and 24-105. A couple of times I have brought a fast prime too, 85 or 50.

A few times It's just been a Leica with 35mm lens.

Sometimes I see people drag 8-10 lenses along on a trip, and it just becomes a matter of dragging gear around and switching lenses constantly. No thanks. Decent body and lens on an R-strap for me, does not get in the way and can be carried all day without a problem.

Would consider swapping for a NEX body though but not sure what lens I would use.

Choice of lens on an NEX would probably be the least of your concerns--there's so many to pick from!
Yeah--the 1DS2 is an excellent body, especially used at current prices!

Well, for a travel camera I would want auto aperture and other such luxuries. So that narrows down the choices a bit.

Two light kits currently in use:

D7000 + 24mm F2.8D mostly my grab when I leave the house

D700 + 24-120mm F4 VR 2 is a more realistic travel option.

If money wasn't an option, I'd go for M9 with 35 Lux. If were talking 'bout gear we actually own, I'd probably opt for the m8 with the zm biogon 25/2.8 though I'd probably at least want two lenses. I think an awesome and realistic set up would be the m8 paired with the NEX 5n for video/lower light. I suppose this would be breaking the rules lol.

I too would take the m9 + summilux 35 for fantasy gear.

Right now it would be a toss up, 5d2 +35L or 5d2 + 24-105
