Being the Brit that you dissed I'm going to be nice and say the one on the left.
Seriously though I do prefer the one of the left. The middle looks like it's SOOC, not too bad but something most people could come out with. The one on the left looks like it has a distinct processing style and I quite like it.

the left one looks like she has a rash on her face.. middle isn't as muddy & much more flattering appearance of both subject's skin(color preferences aside). alternative edits 2 & 3 look like they are just presets and were devoted little time to keeping the smoothness of the skin, lessening the blown highlights, and possibly reigning in the tones a little more.

why not post the shot so we can all take a stab at it.
I think it would be interesting to see what people come up with.
This way you can have a reference point maybe.
I remember Sam used to do that a lot. Post up shots and let everyone edit and repost them.

I've been wanting to do a thread like that for quite some time... but handled by submission of xmp to see everyone's true work without influence. All results would be posted by the originator I too, think it would be interesting to have others' take on our own image(s)... for fun, obviously. It'd make a great game of who produced what result. I may put up an image for PP submission to give this a try. I think it'd be a lot of fun.

Ale - Have you tried to shoot a colorchecker/passport target and make your own LR/ACR profile with the DNG profile editor, at least as a starting neutral baseline?

my very first thought was "MIDDLE LOOKS BEST" before i read anything about the post (or anyone's response). going back and looking at it again, "MIDDLE LOOKS BEST". maybe just pull back the exposure 1/2 stop and you are gold.

I mentioned that earlier in the thread. It's certainly worth experimenting with to find what you like (and save some time editing).
Search google for D700 lightroom beta v3
You'll get a link to an adobe engineer's post that has improved the camera profile for D3/D700. I really like it. He is working on v4 which will be part of Ligthroom 3.6.
