Also, since you're not in the US (as per your profile) we may be off-base on local pricing. I wouldn't pay >$1000 for a very clean 5D and grip (you can't check the shutter count on a 5D, btw). The other stuff included in the deal is essentially worthless.
Actually, i'm in Beijing, and the yuan is a bit strong these days... thanks all the same. I'll wait and see if he wants to lower the price around the $1000... TIme is on my side
Has the seller explained purchase and the ownership history?
Is the seller a dealer? As noted, neither lens is what one would expect with a 5D.
Is the seller local ( or close enough ) so you can see and try the gear before buying?
If the deal included boxes, ( maybe an original receipt ) and a little better lens it might be more interesting --- but based on what you have so far, I'd pass.
The seller is not a dealer.
According to him, the EOS was his brother's second/backup body and he picked it up (almost) new from his brother before coming to China. It might explain the odd body-lens combo...
No box nor receipt provided.
Local seller, so I'd be able to check and try the whole thing before hypothetical purchase.
I've also asked other friends, and everybody agrees that it's a tad expensive.
I'll keep an eye on it and remind the seller that I might consider it if he lowers his price.
Hi all,
The guy has lowered his price to 1100 USD. After a lot of checking on ebay/taobao and forums, I think it's an ok price - albeit not the bargain of the century- if it's all in very good condition. I will meet him and have a good look at everything.
Anything I should pay particular attention to?
dcains mentioned earlier that the shutter count cannot be checked; even by a technician in a canon centre?
A bit late, but just to let you know that I took the plunge and bought it for around 1080 USD. Have been very happy so far, very different from my LX3, which I haven't touched since (but will keep). One small nice surprise was the bag, a winer t07, which really is comfortable to carry the body and all accessories.
The zoom, albeit no great and feeling flimsy, is a fun one to have (on bright days) and also complements the 85 and the 50 I already had with my EOS 30v (film).
I know it wasn't the best bargain ever, but for me, at least a good deal.
