Will we see a Canon Version of the Nikon V1
I am a Canon user and was today in a camera store playing with the Nikon V1. It`s a great fast camera. Ideal for street and travel photography.
I hope Canon will bring something similar. Mirrorless cameras are the way to go.

Let's better hope that Canon learns from the success of Fuji X100 and the upcoming just leaked Fuji X interchangeable mirrorless camera with hybrid viewfinder.

Why not? Nobody is forcing you to purchase one.
Company resources that go into research and development of a camera like that might take resources away from development of DSLRs and lenses. Skilled designers and engineers have limited time to spread around.

Chuck Westfall's interview on DPReview hinted at changes and possible sensor size improvement in the G-series to better compete with the M4/3 and Nex APS-C success. I hope they look there and not to Nikon's novelty.
You may have come across a Nikon 1 V1 review that compares Nikon 1V1 camera with other similar products. Almost all such reviews unanimously conclude that this camera is far superior to all the other competitive products. This verdict certainly has a basis. Firstly, the most important feature of this camera is that it accepts interchangeable lenses. Though this facility is available in a few other cameras also, the fact that Nikon 1V1 has many other great and innovative features tilts the scales in its favor. Another benefit is that the slow contrast detection antifocus systems that are commonly used in other cameras have been dispensed with and in their place, a hybrid AF system that is faster in detecting phase and contrast is used on Nikon 1V1. Further, Nikon has adopted another innovative technique and has provided a hotshoe instead of a built-in flash. A Nikon’s new SpeedLight SB-N5 flashgun can be used with this hotshoe. ...Show more →

The GX1 was their alternative. I don't think we'll see an EVIL camera until it's apparent that mirrorless is the way of the future.
I like my EP3 for P&S use and the pancake prime makes it very petite. However, fitted with a telezoom and EVF it's really awkward to hold steady (too small grip) and not significantly more portable than a Pentax K series or Rebel. My fingers ache trying to hand on to that darn thing. I think mirrorless will fill a niche of the high-end P&S and low-end DSLR. They would need to be a lot larger to seriously handle fast long lenses.

With all the excitement about mirrorless, and the disappointment of some over the G1X not being interchangeable lenses, I wouldn't be surprised to see Canon be the first on the block with full frame mirrorless adapted to the EF lenses (maybe adapters for FD, Leica, etc). This would be quite a coup for Canon and they could avoid getting distracted into a whole new system of lenses like Nikon, or having the M4/3 lens makers getting too much access to Canon's money-making lenses.
That seems the simplest and most elegant solution: FF mirrorless, using existing lens production.

Why would we want to see the same product?
If the Nikon suits your needs then buy it. I don't know why anyone would want something similar.
I'm all for a EVIL Canon, but not a re-hash of what others have done.
Hopefully Canon will come out with something different and worth our money.
The speed of the Nikon, the IQ of the Fuji, and a new more ergonomic form factor would be nice.

From what I've seen I don't think I would worry if canon did a v1 type body. It gets a very decent write up
The preference if I was in the market for one would be 1.5crop or maybe 2x . But considering the probable need for a new mount anyway then I could say that 2.5-3x crop wouldn't exactly break the deal for me.
It would only really be a family do anything cam anyway.
The only cam to try and keep the same mount as the DSLR is the new Pentax . And that looks no smaller in depth than the K5 so I see that as pretty pointless.
