p.1 #1 · Can something be wrong with the camera if....

My friend has a Canon Rebel XT that I sold to her earlier this year. I bought it new almost 6yrs ago and I barely used it, Mostly on auto, but sometimes on Av when I would shot my brothers soccer game. I knew pretty much nothing about cameras even while having that, I didn't get into photography until I sold her my rebel and bought a used Canon 50D. Now I know a lot more, not a pro or anything, and she asked me for help because she says she can't get good pics. I was in a rush today when she asked, but in the quick few minutes I played with it on Av mode, it seemed like it wasn't metering light right. The exposure level indicator was all the way to the right and wouldn't move after changing F/stop, ISO,metering mode or restarting. It would do a fast shutter speed in low light conditions when I know it shouldn't be that fast. I was able to take a lot better pics under M mode knowing what speed should work for the ISO and lighting I was under, and the Exposure Level Indicator also seemed to work. Can the Av setting be bad? What could be wrong with it? I'm going to play with it some more before I conclude that it's bad. I will also try a firmware update. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Is that only with one lens? Check the aperture to see if it is stopping down.
