I currently have a hap-hazard safety net for my images and I would like a better one.
I currently have a Drobo Unit that backs up my system. My computer has RAW images from the current year and the past year, so those are protected. I also work up my better images and upload those to my SmugMug account which stores them as full resolution jpegs. I also have a hot swappable tray that I put my files on and when they are full I switch them out for storage.
So, what I have is a shelf full of yearly labeled internal hard drives with past images, an internal hard drive for current images, and the Drobo for the backup of the 2 most current years.
What I want to do is find a storage solution that would allow me to upload my RAW files and give me a backup for all of my RAW files.
If you have any suggestions for solutions, please let me know.
I like Backblaze. Been with them over a year, and I've tested their recovered with a 36gb folder full of RAW files, as well as other folder recoveries at times. It will backup external sources, such as a Drobo, but will not do network storage, so no DroboShare or NAS stuff.
So far I've backed up about 3-4TB of raw and other files. Works great. The biggest concern was the initial upload. That takes a while depending on your upload speed and dedication to uploading.
It appears that Backblaze is a Backup solution and not a storage solution, what that means is that once I go more than 30 days with a different drive in my hot swappable, or with a different external (or with an external not plugged in) the Backblaze will delete those files.
Shoot me a PM, will ya? I ran into the same problem (and lack of options), and started building something, but so far everyone I've run it by is in my network and works in a very similar way to me.
I'd love to hear what a complete stranger is looking for in a storage service.
Chais Jarvis put out a video outlining his extensive million $ system. While you may not do exactly what he lays out, he has got some good ideas.
Also as per colinm's request, i'd request that the info be kept public so all can learn- i know lots are interested in these topics, and we all can learn from each other...
Good luck and let us know what you figure out,
Ben
