Looking for advice. I have a Nikon D700 and a NIkon SB600. I have purchased the Pixel Knight and want to play with off camera flash. I bought 1 transmitter, 2 receivers, so, I need to purchase another flash unit. I am not a pro photographer and do almost all of my shooting outdoors with a little inside sports such as volleyball. Which flash unit would you recommend?
If you use iTTL Autoflash, then another Nikon flash might be best despite the cost. If you're wanting to use them outdoors during daylight, the most power you can afford is helpful.
If you're comfortable with manual flash (and if you're not, you should learn as soon as you can), then you can get power at lower cost. The LumoPro LP160 that Brian (the other Brian, that is) mentioned is well regarded among Strobists. I use the old workhorse Vivitar 285HV, which has a lot of features for $90 brand new.
thanks for the advice. I just received the Pixel Knights and tested them out with the one flash I have. They work every time so far. I am planning on getting another Nikon flash for this set up. Will the bigger flash {SB900, 800 and the 700} over power the SB600 when they are used together?

The more-powerful light can be set for a lower power to match the smaller flash, or you can use the smaller flash as an accent light and the larger flash as the key light, and/or various permutations thereof.
It's generally no problem to mix flash units of different maximum outputs.
