p.1 #1 · Model Lamp with VML

So I just got my Vagabond Mini Lithium in today, and I didn't see anyone talking about using a modeling lamp with it...Mainly I saw post complaining about the mount system :P

So I fired up my VML and had the model light on, the pack was humming VERY loudly. Is this normal?

Also, I know Paul says...NO MODEL LAMP, but how would a CFL or a LED bulb work in it? I mean, at 4 watts...how much could a LED really stress the pack?

Have you looked at the PCB Tech forum? The TS people can give you plenty of information on the VML.

I do not use the modeling light on VML power.

What strobes are you using? PCB sells a low-wattage modeling lamp for the Einstein specifically with intent to use it with the VML. It is a 25watt lamp.

unless you're shooting in a fairly dark location the low wattage lamps are basically useless for setup... you can get away with one modeling lamp on for a while but i wouldnt push it...

You can look into getting some led bulbs. I haven't tried them myself because they're expensive for what they are. I don't know if they'll be useful for an actual WYSIWYG modeling lamp, but if you want them for a focus assist light in darker situations, it should work. However, I believe you loose the lamp tracking ability with the alienbees.
