Here's a naturally monochrome image I shot this morning - the original in-camera JPEG. (The camera's set to shoot jpeg plus camera raw.) There are also two versions, the pano just Photoshop, the other with Silver Efex Pro (Fine Art, High Key.)

Let the play begin!

Hi Karen,
Nice to see more of your images. And BW to boot!
First is just too flat in the sky for my taste.
Third has some beautiful effect in the water, especially the first band. But the sky has no interest and takes up a lot of real estate.
So, second for me. A bit more in the sky. Bold play of the bands of light in the water. A bit of haloing, however, over the treeline.
I think the last might work best if you extracted just a bit more in the sky.
I also keep wondering how the choice of print media might affect the last two. Aluminum paper?
I do like the crop in the third. With more sky features.
A beautiful scene!

Scott

Thanks, Scott! The first was the starting point vanilla image from the camera with the only PS change a size reduction. For the second I moved the clouds down from the top of the original image to the top of the cropped version and dodges them. These are just a couple of initial versions. I've plenty of ways to tinker with it further, but I'm curious what others would do, too.
