p.1 #1 · New York - Where to stay?

I posted this in the Alternative Gear forum with a bit of a gear question attached. I thought I'd try here also to see what kind of ideas you guys may have.

Hello fellow FM'ers.

I am headed to New York in a couple of months for a four night stay. I am now realizing that hotel prices are quite steep in the big apple and the options seem endless.

Without breaking the bank (although I'd rather spend a bit more for a great adventure and convenience), where do suggest I stay, hoping to narrow down my search a bit.

I will probably also head into B&H to check out the latest gear.

Any pointers for where to get the great shots would also be appreciated as I don't have that many days there.

Thanks

The last two times I was there we stayed at the XXXXXXX by Central Park as it was about the cheapest for what I would consider a decent hotel (room size, great concierge, very courteous staff). You can do cheaper but you can't beat the convenience and location. I hope you're not planning on driving in the city? I'm sick to death of NYC. Tourists and ignoramuses abound. It was worse than Disneyworld last time we were there. Have fun.

Sorry, meant to say the Hilton. The one at 53rd and the Avenue of the Americas. Caters to business customers but I found it great as a staging point for all of our adventures in the city that never sleeps. Even got to talk to a young hooker outside the hotel when I went down for a walk in the early evening. It was great.

I'm flattered that with limited time here you'd include us in your visit. You should know we close at 1:00pm Fridays EST and we're closed all day every Saturday. Sundays are the busiest days in our store. Forewarned is forearmed.

The standard hotel on 14th St. is cool it's near the a c e trains so all you gotta do is take that to 34th street to BH. Or you can walk it, it's by the water and it's pretty cool.
