This is way off-topic for a photo forum, but there are a lot of smart people gathered here on FM, so I figured I'd ask anyway.
I have what I think is a great idea for a web site that will, in a way, help people manage their money. The problem is that I know it would cost a fortune to put it together, but I was told that I might be able to try to get a web developer to build it for equity. Does anyone have experience with this? Where can I find a suitable developer and how can I approach them with my idea while protecting it at the same time? Does anyone know of a forum that caters to this kind of question?
Any information or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated and again, I realize how out of place this is on FM!
Not the answer you are looking for. But have you given any thought to trying to develop it yourself? With all the tools available today to build websites, it is no where as complicated as it used to be.
Also most of your major hosting companies offer starter packages to full blown eCommerce sites as part of the hosting.
Not to take away from professionals, but if I was trying to get something off the ground I would be tempted to do it myself....But Im cheap!
Thanks Mike. I never even considered that I could handle it, but I'll do some research. I just figured that if I wanted a site that looked as good as Facebook and not Joe's Towing, I'd need help.
I would recommend getting in contact with Dan Van Loon at Design Corps US (www.designcorps.us) ([email protected]). He's a long time family friend of mine who does absolutely excellent graphic design work as well as web development. He did my business cards for me (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150303017166818&set=t.587421817&type=1&theater). He's based in Batavia, Illinois. I don't know if he's branched out into doing eCommerce related stuff yet but I'd drop him a line and see what he can do for you. I can personally attest to his character and quality of work. He will be a partner of mine for years to come.
