First two, in part because they are black/whites, work extremely well as photojournalistic captures.
Third is a bit porblematic and shows the difficulty of less cluttered captured in the midst of a crowd. I find the signs obscuring the women's face too distracting. The issue is not the attention to the signs, but the cutoff body becomes a focal point. I also think you lose some intensity by moving to color.
Last does a nice job capturing a somber mood of the protestors. While it adds to the mood, I'd like to see a bit more of the shadows opened up beneath the hats. Fill flash would have helped.

Photoshop. Selected the background and applied lens blur filter. Added B & W adjustment layer. Selected his face and boosted the id-tone contrast using the USM at 16, 60, 0, Used the sharpen tool to sharpen his eyes slightly and then dodges his eyes and the area of his face close to his eye.
