p.1 #1 · What software for backup/archiving?

Just wondering if anyone can recommend me a backup/archiving software for use with an external hdd.

What I like to look for is the ability to create schedules for certain logical folder/file contents.

Try Comodo, one of the best with a free version. Playing with that may give you an idea of what you like and don't like. One quirk, though, that tends to annoy me is that you actually have to create and run a successful back up first, then it asks you how you want to schedule it in the future after it's been run the first time.

I've tried a ton of different software and have been very happy with GoodSync. It does all the things you are asking and does it fairly intuitively.

I've been using a program called SyncBack for the past year and it seems to work well. Simple to setup.

Handy Backup can do it well, it's easy to use and reliable software for backup to external hard drive.

I use chronosync. A bit confusing at first but it's rock solid and works great.

MS SyncToy... communicates with windows task scheduler. I've liked it so far.
