How are they in terms of build quality and quality of light? Do they throw a very even light?
I see that they permanently have the speedrings attached, so they aren't very compact when folded up. I like the prices of their grids, the ones for other brands are friggin' expensive.
I have the 30" x 60" and 2 of the strip boxes. The large box seems pretty even, never metered as well, but the interior is a pebbled bright silver, as opposed to a smooth white, like some. I think that helps scatter the light. I also always use the interior baffle. I have used the large box horizontally with 4 people about 7 feet away with no problems. I do have the grids for all 3 and they are priced well, compared to others. No quality issues.
I measured the large softbox last night. Meter reads were f16 across the top left, top center, top right, bottom left, bottom center and bottom right. Measured f18 middle left, middle center and middle right. So about 1/3 of a stop difference. I don't know how it compares to others.

I liked my medium foldable softbox but never used it as much so I sold it but I am looking at getting one of the octas. Its real easy to use and felt good also.

I have the large octa and the large softbox as well. Like Diavolo said, I wish the storage bag was built a little better, but I have absolutely no complaints with the quality of the construction of the boxes or the light output. Only complaint is that maybe the ones I got were too large :-D

Since there is a 2 stop difference, then what is a good (decent value) stripbox recommendation for use with the Einsteins without going to a Kacey adapter (which would add $90 to the cost of an Elinchrom Strip box)?

I've owned many Chimera, Elinchrom and Profoto boxes, all have their virtues. However, the 36" PCB Octa + grid is my favorite modifier EVER. Build quality is strong (it's definitely not as light as Elinchrom), and the light quality is superb.

I had some time today so I metered 4 of the boxes I had assembled... the Paul Buff strip box for me metered 25 at the center and 20 at the edges, at 5' the meter readings were 5.0 at the center and 4.5 at the edge. I have more details and the readings for the other boxes if anyone is interested....

f/25 is 0.64 more stops of light than f/20.
f/5.0 is 0.30 more stops of light than f/4.5
So seems well below the 2 stops of light that was mentioned.

I have a large Photoflex Q39 softbox (36x48) with a circle mask, but I'm seriously considering getting a pair of PCB medium octa boxes plus a grid for the easier setup. I plan to use one for key the other for fill. I think the PCB medium (35 inch) should be big enough in my small space and still provide a circle as large as my circle mask / SB setup now.
