Perhaps you would do better by returning it for refund ?
I feel 8-15L might fall into the same demand niche as 70-300mm DO.

Somebody will want it enough to sweeten a trade deal with it.

Pogi Paolo, based on whatever little I've seen shot with 8-15L, my old 15FE is.....

* sharper, if anything
* one stop faster
* much smaller and lighter
* much cheaper.

How many circular images can one make before getting tired of the effect ?

Agree, current 15mm FE prime is extrimely good lens. Not sure who need this circular effect at all? Any practical use of it from anyone?

Did anyone notice that the price for the 15mm f/2.8 was increased to $800. It was $670 yesterday. I wonder why?
I have been checking because I bought it used yesterday.

I haven't seen it in our stores yet, however, some people might have taken early deliveries of a few.

In this hot weather $1,700 would be much better used towards the purchase of a fancy refrigerator with a built in ice-maker.

Think video Pedro.

Your old 15FE also has:

* a longer MFD
* much lower magnification
* the inability to produce a 180° diagonal FE image on a 1.3x or 1.6x crop body

I believe the last item is the real selling point for this lens (not the circular FE), especially (but not limited to) someone with multiple bodies w/different sensor sizes.

Canon might have screwed up their specs somewhere.
My EF 15mm f/2.8 Fish Eye has perfectly adequate MFD as well as magnification.

Just because the old model is "adequate" doesn't mean it couldn't be improved*. In addition, the new one has USM.

*Specs:

Canon EF 15mm:

Minimum Focus Distance: 7.87" (19.99cm)
Magnification: 0.14x
-----------------------------------------
Canon EF 8-15mm USM:

Minimum Focus Distance: 6.2" (15.75cm)
Magnification: 0.39x

Right or wrong, those MFD/magnification specs mean very little to a large segment of photographers. How many are going to try close up photography of insects and similar with fish eye lenses ?

Furthermore, intrinsic USM AF advantages are of little utility in a fisheye lens. (Naturally, USM AF drive adds a good deal of performance to telephoto lenses. )

In addition to speed, USM also gives the ability to manual focus without flipping a switch, oh, but you already knew that...

Fisheye lenses aren't for meant for a large segment of photographers in the first place. And getting closer doesn't have to involve insects, or even small objects. It could be people, pets, plants or inanimate objects. In the end, I guess you just have to open your mind and use your imagination.

But you already knew that...

I guess your clients and models must be trembling with anticipation of you taking their portraits with your new fisheye lens at MFD.

Bought the lens 2 days ago. Find it to be rather heavy and bulky.
But overall, I've having fun with the new perspective of a circular fisheye.

I agree with Peter. I'm not impressed at all with this offering. Sometimes you just have to wonder what the hell Canon is thinking.

I'm sure this will sell better than a 24-70 f/2.8 IS or an updated 50 1.4 with ring USM would though.
