So there is a guy on other forum always critic me for using horizontal orientation a lot. While I do think I take plenty of portrait orientation, I dont lie that I purposely take horizontal photo because I think it creates a different mood. Plus horizontal will fit my album spread and my zenfolio slideshow better. Is it that wrong to take a picture like this? Englighten me!
No, there's nothing wrong with landscape orientation unless the shot calls for portrait orientation.
I would like to see neck and shoulders in this shot, though.
I tend to take more vertical shots..... BUT they are not as easy to display on a website or a computer screen by themselves, that is normally my main drawbacks. I do agree that you might have included more in your image like HLP said.
Are you taking criticism from poeple who appraoch the world way too literally? People who think that every shot has to obey the rule of thirds and landscape orientation means that you have to be shooting scenery.
Mix it up, have some fun as long as you get the shot.
It is called "horizontal" and when you think of it, it's pretty much the way we view things in real life. And the way we see TV. And movies. So it's actually more common than a vertical view. And the funny thing is they know this and build the cameras that way.
We're getting into a lot more video and horizontal is the only way to shoot. Thankfully I've been shooting mostly horizontal for a long time. It's much easier to crop a horizontal shot to a vertical shot than vice versa. Keep shooting how you want to!
Of course, I'm also with Haley - sometimes it's good to experiment with orientation so you can try something new.
