I've avoided trying a CPL filter until now, but it seems to work well with this combo and angle. Trying something new with the filter, lens/body combo. The lens is new to me, and afterthought of a EF 35/2 purchase. But it turns out this lens is quite nice on the APS-H 1.3X format (equiv. to 36.4mm).

1D2, EF 28/2.8 @ 5.6, ISO 125
4-shot pano, vertical orientation, handheld
LR4 and PSE 10 for PP

I'll bet you are wondering about the subject: why? Ha-ha! Well, it is a boring test for one thing. For another, the four shots produce an effective angle of view for a "look" of UWA, 14-16mm I'd estimate. The fact I kept perspective limited makes it look "regular" and gives the first impression of perhaps a 28mm full frame shot, when it actually takes in quite a bit more. Possibly this would be a handy and lightweight hiking around lens in the great outdoors, stitching panos together?

Very very nice. How do you like the 40/2 on the D800e? I had one for a while on my D700 and it was fine, but I did not use it much. Now there are times I wish I still had it.

Who will be the first to post a 240 degree panorama from the iPhone 5, and a link to a full 28MP version?

decided to play with the iphone 5 pano feature since i was at the location they suggest using it.

turns out to be a rather difficult task for an autostitcher (you can actually see stitching artifacts on the screen of apples promo picture above). i made 5 attempts to capture the canonical golden gate panorama and none of them produced a usable result. one attempt failed after a couple frames, but here are the other four attempts:

the autostitching app really needs an exposure lock control...

anyway i took a bunch of shots with a rokkor 58/1.2 on a NEX-7 as well and threw them into hugin to see how it could handle all those pesky bridge wires. it had quite a few problems as well though the result looks much better than the iphones efforts:

the hugin/nex stitch also has the advantage of being tack sharp at the pixel level and 220mp of course.

I wasn't too impressed with the new pano app either, sebboh. I guess it would be all right for the less discerning to post on their facebook page, otherwise not that great.

Here is a recent one of mine, at my favourite spot once again.

Here is another from my last venture. Playing with my new-to-me Sigma 12-24 @ 12mm, which of course was difficult to stitch.

oh, wow. i can't image trying to stitch something that wide. do you do any distortion correction first?

here is larger and better done version of the rokkor 58/1.2 golden gate pano:

No distortion correction, and I honestly didn't think it would work either... I just tried every option available in PTGui until it kind of worked out.

John,
Love that first Chilterns reflection pano.
Great comp, lighting, and mood!
Easily one of best landscape shots I have seen lately here in alt forum.
Hope you enter it in the best shot thread.
