Have to say I'm not entirely sold on the 5N either. Shooting it side by side with my K-5, I find the K-5 files to be much cleaner, even at base ISO, which is a bit surprising given they apparently have very similar if not identical sensors.
That is exactly the other reason I am considering the switch back. I use A3 for PP although I do have Lightroom and find the noise above 1600 bad for the 5N and the NR in A3 is literally non existent compared to LR. Just don't want to have to learn LR. I will say I haven't printed anything yet to see if it really matters but for some reason I am really having issues with keeping steady with the Nex. I have the 18-200 and it is great on the Nex but any MF glass I struggle with. Really considering the K5 with either the 31 & 77 or the 43 and 70. I also have an X100 so I think those combos and then possibly a 300 for my kids sports next season would be perfect. Or, maybe I just need to learn to shoot what I have
You know... I hadn't really thought about the lack of SR, but I'm sure that's playing into it (noise/NR aside).
I've just had it for so long with Pentax, and never really needed it with the way auto-ISO is on the D700, that it never even crossed my mind that it could be factoring into my dissatisfaction.
That said, I just developed another batch from the 5N and got some really nice results, so maybe I just need to spend more time with the camera before forming any hard and fast opinions.
I use the K-5 only with my old Takumare and few other old M42 lenses but it seems that it is worth to have a have a closer look to this lens. Great sharpness, colour and details.
Boy ... I'm noticing that a lot of pics in this thread have that over-processed HDR look. Is that inherent in the camera or are some photogs just processing that way? To my eyes it's not a "look" that shows off the K-5 to best advantage (or any other camera for that matter). Does the K-5 have some kind of HDR mode or something like it?
My long exposures I just posted are not the norm. The b&w portraits were straight raw and converted to b&w with silver efex pro 2. Nothing out of the ordinary.

And some "Learning Portraits" of my daughter recently. Braces come off in 3 months so it should be a different look then.
Nice work Jason......I had my K-5 out today. First time in a while since I've been playing with the 5N. I forgot how great it is.......and how it has the sexiest shutter sound on the planet.

Rich,
I didn't know you had a K5 too! Hell, I had a Pentax PK to Nex adapter I coul dhave sent your way. The Ltds look really good on the Nex. Just wish I was better at hand holding with them. May get another body in the future with another 18-200 if the 60-250 Pentax DA* doesn't work out for my daughter's cheer stuff next year.

Wow .. the 77mm rendering is very pleasant.
Months ago I had plan to modified the 77mm to EOS (with no aperture control), but finally I cancelled it.
By the way I just received a message from my friend about Pentax plan to release mirrorless fullframe camera.
I thought I just read something on here that PK lenses could be used on 5D2s without worry of the mirror hanging? If Pentax wants to put out a FF digital I will listen...Intently!
