Btw, somewhere in the movie there is a shot of a D4 with the lens on it. Whoa! It is the size of the 24-70/2.8G as a rough estimate, and has 12 elements!

yeah, it looks large and I guess it'll be really expensive. Has anyone seen a release date for this lens?
According to an early press release from Zeiss it is expected to be available next autumn.
Here are 3 photos from a smaller, cheaper but very good perfroming 50mm, the Macro-Planar.

Nice shot. Are you going to take it outside one day?
Heh, well its snowing, so not today. I took a few shots outside already, but nothing interesting. 50mm on APS-C is bit too long for me I think. Or sometimes not enough.
Tho its matter of perspective, as 6 mpix APS-C its not disappointing and not many cams can pull this off (or at least not in one shot). Original shot is way flatter, so some DR sacrifice was needed in order to get some contrast.
I put it down to the lens and camera, and pretty fair light conditions. It can be a bokeh monster for slow 100mm, carsten was asking for some images from it a few weeks back. It's a pretty useful lens as a walk around option, and has a very flat field with Sonnar character. I also wanted to show the how the sensor works with other lenses than the RX1. Akul, I see very little CA in it, perhaps you do however ;-)

... bokeh on #2 seems a bit on the hard side but not offensive either.
Agree. The S100 has its "good" bokeh on the near side (CZ SOP), but that shot looks to be at MFD. In most case, this lens has awesome defocus blur. One of my favs optically, and for handling. Glad to see it action, Philip. BTW, what camera?
