Yes, but the e54LV is the weakest part. I am longing for the new AFi-12R. But this is financially out of reach. Hence i am looking to get a ZE100 for the 5d2, but i am not 100% convinced yet.
You would miss the 120/4 Macro, I think. I don't know what the equivalent is for the Rolleiflex, but the clean files and impeccable lens behaviour common in good medium format systems cannot be matched by a Canon with a ZE lens.
Having said that, the 100 MP is great, one of my favorite lenses.
Yes, 110/120mm on medium format is a very nice focal length. You might also consider the 85/1.4 depending on what you want it for. Wide open it is a mixed bag, and close up it is not the greatest. It has some focus shift. But if you are operating within its parameters, it is fantastic!
Here is a Contax 645 120/4 Macro shot, this time on a Sinar e54 LV:
Had a Contax 85/1.4 and a ZE 85/1.4 that i sold to finance the Hy6. Not going there again. IŽd like a lens that is good close up as i like my portraits sharp and the focus shift drove me crazy back then. I also tested the ZE85 against the EF85/1.8 and TS-E90 and the Zeiss was the loser. I like your bird shot with the 80-200 a lot.
Note to myself: Do extensive shooting with the TS-E 90 before getting the ZE100.
At what distance and aperture do you prefer to shoot portraits?
Have you considered the 50 MP? I would say that for slightly more environmental portraits, this is a superior portrait lens to the 100 MP. The sharpness is equal, it has less CA, and the large DoF for its aperture helps to get the face more in focus.
50mm is too short, iŽd also use the ZE100 for compressed landscape, full body shots, architectural details, the occasional product shot and maybe some abstracts too.
carsten, thanks so much for the 80-200/4 images - impressive for a guy who does not like post processing. Dare I say, lots of depth to each of them from this perpetual sleeper lens, which trades off max aperture and a little in fine detail/overall contrast for the virtues of low weight, simplicity of use, an MFD of 1m and a very useful FL range. It is the obvious companion for the 35-70 which is also very easy to focus. Two lenses, not much more than a kilo in weight, 35mm to 200mm...
The Contax zooms do carry a lot more detail than you see in the OOC RAWs, it seems to be a family feature, like the filmic look they share. Old world charm at near its best from this biased user.
Yes Philip, this is truly a nice lens, and I am very happy I took a chance on it. I have wondered about the 35-70/3.4 for a long time now, but I think that I prefer primes in that range. Too bad that there isn't an old Contax 16-35 zoom. That, the 80-200/4 and a good 50 could do a lot for me as a mini-kit.
I have just added a list of Zeiss-related FM links to the first post in this thread, which I will maintain over time. I am not planning to add all threads, there are just too many, so I have tried to add all large and/or important threads, leaving out single-poster and tiny threads.
Here is another Contax 645, 120/4 Macro, Sinar e54 LV shot. It is really a pity to post such small reductions on the web, since much of the feel is lost, so let's all hope that Apple brings Retina displays to the desktop:
Awesome thread compilation Carsten! I look forward to the development of this thread, and as well look forward to uploading some Zeiss 16/2.8 Fisheye (Rollei QBM) pictures which haven't had a place on the internet until now

+1 , except for the very last point which I wouldn't be too sure.
Carsten, I guess we'll discuss the last point in the other thread or via PM - don't want to derail the discussion here
And another thing Carsten, thanks a bunch for the compilation. We really **should** make this thread a sticky now, just for that compilation alone !
