My current "throw inna truck" combo is the D300 and 70-300 VR. One never knows when
an op may present itself, and it pays to be prepared. Stumbled on some Team Roping
action Saturday, with my real gear some 6 miles to the South...what the hell eh?!
Probably the best $400 purchase I've made since turnin' to the darkside.
I agree with you on this lens. Sharp, light and cheap - what's not to like? It's one of those bang-for-the-buck lenses, like the old 18-70 "kit" lens, that delivers more than it should for the price.
That plus the 18-70 make for a cheap, light, sharp, do-anything kit to take anywhere.
Bought the 70-300 and a D40x for my girlfriend when we went to the Galapagos and half the time it finds its way onto my D300. I don't know how that happens
I got one as per trenchmonkey's advice when I was looking at between the 24-120 and the 28-300, do not regret it even if I haven't used it too much... yet. It must be amazing on a DX body though with that extra reach.
I love mine on my D90. It does need a decent amount of light in order to keep the iso and shutter speed at reasonable levels, but it really delivers for what you pay. It's going to be a part of my kit for my trip to Greece in a week and a half (with the rest being the D90, SB600, 50 f1.8, and Tokina 12-24)

Kid has great technique for his age...this is just my 2nd season shootin' the TR and
I'm still learning what to look for, where to shoot from etc. Great fun!

Sweet! Agree, it certainly is nice to have the 200-300 range covered.
