I just bought mine from B&H Photo and I have to say that it is pretty nice. So far it feels like a good product. The rubber grip is a bit softer than what comes on the 7d but it feels like it grips better. Not too fond of the smell coming from the grip but I know that will go away with time. The buttons are a little too easy to press. The plastic doesn't have the same texture as the 7d but it matches the 7d's color perfectly.
I'll have to reserve my judgment until after I have had the grip for a while. For less than half the price of the Canon grip.. Its worth it.

Sweet, now I need an alternative to the 7d w/grip arca L bracket. They are like 180. There has to be a cheaper alternative than that. Maybe one that fits a different camera but still works on a gripped 7D?
It's branded differently, hence the question - they're doubtless made in their thousands in a Chinese factory, bought and branded to suit whichever importer is parting with their cash, so as long as nothing leaps out as being definitely not a Zeikos, I'm happy to assume that it's the same unit by a different name.

Did you know that the L brackets are milled out a solid chunk of aluminum? They are computer designed probably from a laser imprint of the body. Take a piece of aluminum ~5X5X2" and grind away all of the excess, smooth the edges, anodize, and silk screen the index marks. Then there is a fair mark up for the relatively low volume product like this. $180 doesn't sound so unrealistic.
Its the second half of this video http://exposureroom.com/members/douggardner/35f5d90a9caa44ecb709a22337d883ec/
Got myself one off fleabay from china called "Meikos" and seems fine, decent quality for 1/3 price of the canon one. The slot where the battery cover goes doesn't seem quite big enough but the grip goes on fine.
Not sure about the 2 batteries that you can only charge on the supplied charger and that will fry if used on the canon one though ! but they won't ever be used inside the body of the 7D so worst case is if they explode they will only wreck the grip !
Your observation is the same as mine. It works fine. On the original Canon grip, the battery cover lies flat and goes snugly with the indentation on the grip. At a fraction of the price, I can live with it
Thank you for the confirmation.
