p.1 #1 · FL, GA, Smokey's/ FL Keys/ KW Input

Greetings everyone,

If this is in the wrong thread, can the Mod's please, post it to the correct location.

I am headed to South Florida & the Keys, then up through GA, NC, TN. However, I do not have any ideas, of what to shoot, in South Florida, besides, Birds, Sand, & Water.

Our trip will be going down I-75, from KY to KW. Not looking to make any shooting stops, till we get to the Tampa/ Clearwater Areas. I was thinking of taking the old road (tamiami route), from Tampa to Naples, then hook, 75 over to Miami. Then Miami to KW. What things are there, to see, shoot, & do in the Keys, along the way to KW? Any Input would be appreciated.

Aside from the suggested things, like Sunset @ Mallory Sqr., the Lighthouse, AKA the known locations, in Key West. What else is there to see & shoot? I love shooting Architecture, Sunrises/ Sunsets, Cityscapes & Landscapes. My primary reason, for the trip, is to shoot the SBI Offshore Worlds in Key West, at the end of this week, for several of the teams.

However, I will have quite a bit of free time, to do whatever else I want. The Duval Crawl, does not appeal to me, but I might be interested, in shooting the nightlife/ nightscapes.

The route back, will be up 95. Maybe stopping in the Miami area, for a night, then up to Titusville, for a Shuttle launch, then up A1A to St. Augustine. After St. A, we will hop onto 95, and get off near Darien, and drive the old road to Savannah. What are some unique points of interest' in Georgia/ Savannah. Things, that do not cost' money, are preferred. Architecture once again. Locations of Historical significance, are always enjoyable to shoot.

After stopping in Savannah, we will head up the I-26, to Asheville. After Asheville, it is my intent, to take the old road (441/ 71), over the Smokey's, instead of taking 40 over. Any things to see, do in the Smokey's. I haven't been to the Smokey's since I was 3. I'm 28 now. So, I'm a bit out of the loop. Directions, to Locations, Waterfalls, Scenics, are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any & all input.

James

Check out butterfly world in Southern Florida. That should keep you busy for most of a day.

You will probably get the opertunity for a gator as well.

On your way to, or from, the Keys you could take a detour through Homestead to the Main Gate of Everglades National Park. The Anhinga Trail is usually good for some nice stuff

Don't forget Fort Matanzas/Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine.

From Asheville, remember that I-40 is closed at the Tenn. border due to a rockslide. So your plan of driving to Cherokee and then over US441 towards Gatlinburg is the only way to go right now coming from the East. Now that most of the leaves have dropped, and this Ida rain and forecast wind will certainly take what is left, but there are lots of sites to see regardless.

You might consider on the drive over from Asheville getting on the Blue Ridge Parkway either in Asheville or at Balsam Gap and taking that into GSMNP. The BRP has many overlooks that offer photo ops and some of the side roads also have nice creeks and waterfalls to check out. You could easily spend the day on the drive from Asheville over to Cherokee.

Once in GSMNP just head up US441 and stop wherever it looks good. Most pullouts lead to a stream or view. The Clingman's Dome Rd is open through the end of Nov. unless it gets snow. Cade's Cove traffic should be less now but it is still crowded especially on the weekends. You could stop in the Oconoluftee Visitor Center for more info when you enter the Park.

Hope that helps.
