p.1 #1 · Unknown Creature + 1

Recognise it? Found recently in an open field, bushside, clinging to a blade of dried grass. Only the one and have never seen it before.

This is the only one showing anything of the back and wings.

Lovely series of captures- Intereresting bug -first reaction was a beetle of some kind but can't make out whether it has complete wing covers on the back.
2nd guess would be a sawfly.

Lovely last shot- that rules out sawflies - must be a beetle or rove-beetle I think or perhaps a really weird weevil.

Don't know, I thought the really weird weevil is yet to come.

Looks much like a Meloid (Blister beetle), but I have never seen one with pectinate antennae.

No idea what kinda critter that is, but these are all excellent exposures. Wonderful control of the light and very, very good detail. Nicely done, mate.

These are lovely shots of a wedge-shaped beetle, family Ripiphoridae. See, for instance, Wikipedia--Rhipiphoridae, or BugGuide (North American species). They have a (for beetles) unusual parasitic lifestyle and the adults are said to be short-lived, so not seen very frequently.
