Just thought it would be nice to update my earliar post with the Red Tail Hawk that had been shot by a Bow Hunter.
I first put in a call to the DNR office and left a message explaining what I saw and how the Hawk was staying in the same area where I first observed it. The DNR never returned my call so I got in contact with a Raptor Rescue outfit. The next day a person contacted me for directions to the area I had seen the Hawk.Last Friday he came out and was able to view the Hawk.He then contacted me Friday night and asked me to check the location on Saturday to see if it was still staying in that location.
I was able to locate him quickly due to the fact he was perched in a tree close to the road.I also noticed a roadkill Possum below the tree which he obviously was feeding on, and the reason he was staying close.I took these photos Saturday while it was drizzling and he sat and watched me.
Today the fella called me and said he was able to trap it Monday by setting a live trap under a tree and putting the dead possum in it.
The arrow was thru his upper left leg and it was a field point, he believed there was possibly some bone damage. The Hawk is now being cared for by the right people and it should be rehabilitated properly.
So hopefully a good ending to a sad story
