I'm just getting into using strobes and have been looking at picking up some Alien Bees. I wanted to know if its possible to use them in conjunction with all the Speedotron reflectors and modifiers.. I ask this because I have access to a large photography studio here at my employer. They use all Speedotron Black Line gear. I can't get my hands on their heads but they have a mountain of reflectors and modifiers that never get used that I would be able to borrow on occasion. I know it would be easier if I just bought Speedotron gear but its a bit more than I want to spend right now.

AB is compatible with Balcar mods, but not speedo. Perhaps there is a way to modify them to fit, but I'm fairly certain they will not work as they are. However, speedo 7" grids will be compatible.

Check into the Speedotron brown line, I think most of the black line reflectors are compatable with the brown line M11 head. Have not tried this out myself. Brown line is a lot cheaper then black. I just pick up a Blackline 805 a month ago for under $350.00 on E-bay it works great.

For Speedotron, the Brownline M11 head is physically the same as a Blackline 103 head, and yes, everything fits. The difference comes down to color and the cord. Flash tubes are also compatible, but the Blackline 103 flashtube is rated for more power then the one that comes with the M11, but they can be interchanged.
