p.1 #1 · Moving some equipment. Trying to decide what to pick up :)
Here we go.
Let me start this thread by saying that I'm only pondering this idea at the moment, but it is quite possible for me to go through with it, very soon.
Ok. So I've got a D-Lux 4 that sits around a lot now, I don't like that this is happening. So I'm thinking about moving it. (amongst other little things)
If you check my gear you'll notice I've got the 40D and 5DmkII and a bevy of lenses, I personally GREATLY miss shooting with a 1D series camera, I just love everything about them. (most recently I had the 1DmkIII which I traded to get my 5DmkII).
Anyways, I'm thinking of selling my practically new D-Lux 4 and using the money to purchase one of the following things. (of course I'm willing to listen to other suggestions too.)
I'm thinking about:
1D Classic body (~$450-600)
1DmkII body ($1k+ unless I got really lucky. Not looking to spend that much right now.)
1Ds Classic body (~$1k or less probably)
Or possibly a new lens.
10-22 EF-S
11-16 ATX
12-24 Sigma (so I can go REALLY wide on my 5DmkII)
400 f/5.6L (if I can snag it for my price range.)
or.... Throw some ideas at me.
Ultimately, let's say I have approx $800 (if I chip in a little bit) to work with. The less I spend the better

Yes this is true I am perfectly happy with my 40D. If money were no object I would buy another 1DmkIII in a heartbeat,
If I could find a not too thrashed 1DmkII for under $900 I'd probably go that route. I'm pretty happy with my lens line up, I'm really only lacking in the super telephoto department.

Just some thinking out loud here, but you have a nice FF camera so if it were me, I'd consider selling the 40D (probably get say $650) along with the D-Lux 4. That would help finance a nice 1DII. I got an excellent copy for $900 with 55k clicks on it. Love it and it does blow the doors off any X0D series.
Looking at your lenses, you are well fixed except long. Recently I picked up a well used but completely serviceable 300mm f/4.0 non-IS for $500 and a Sigma 400 f/5.6 for $250. The 300 is a great lens while the Sigma is okay, but still for a bit over $1,500 I radically changed my shooting possibilities.
Do understand I had to shop around, wait for deals, and go with older versions of everything and of course Sigma isn't Canon, but everything is a trade-off and I'm feeling pretty good about this set of choices.

I am actually relatively happy with the performance of my 40D, it wasn't my initial idea to sell it. I can realistically right now only get one thing. Either the 1DII body or the 400L, I'm kind of leaning more towards the lens, because my real goal is to wind up with another 1DmkIII like I had before. I liked the speed of my mkII, but I was never happy with the sharpness of it. My old 1Ds was far sharper, also I feel the 40D is sharper than the 1DmkII files are. (I could be crazy, or maybe I didn't have a good body)
All I know is that when I moved up to the mkIII, I was blown away by how sharp and crisp the files were.
I think I'm going to try and pick up that lens first Unless I come across a deal I can't refuse!

So Pending the sale of some things, I'm actually thinking that I would get the most use from the 135L. I've rebuilt a low-light kit that I'm pretty happy with, but I think the 135 would be a great addition to the bag.
